The climate conditions in the eastern foreland of the Harz mountains have decisive influence on the type and distribution of its ecosystems, the development of the cultivated landscape and its actual way of usability. The determining climatic characteristics of this area (annual average values of air temperature above 9 °C, annual precipitation below 500 mm) are enabling the cultivation of wine in its northernmost area of Europe. Furthermore data are presented and interpreted regarding the role of air humidity, radiation and wind conditions, characterizing together with the above named parameters the climate conditions in the eastern foreland of the Harz mountains, measured for the station Halle/S.
