About the Journal
The Journal of Afghan Legal Studies (JALS) is a peer-reviewed, ISSN-registered, open access academic journal. It is the primary publication of the Institute for Law and Society in Afghanistan.
The editors’s understanding of ‘law’ is broad, encompassing not only state law but also Islamic law, customary law, international law, and other normative frameworks relevant to Afghanistan and its people. Articles are accepted in three languages – Dari, Pashto, and English. As a service to readers, abstracts and authors’ biographies are also published in a second language to ensure that all interested scholars can understand the themes covered in the journal.
The online publication of JALS includes all issues of the journal, including those that were previously available only in print in Kabul before the change of government in 2021 and were distributed to law libraries across Afghanistan and a few international libraries.
Interested authors are warmly invited to contact the editors at jals@ilsaf.org. Please refer to the Submission Guidelines that are available for download on this website. Kindly note that JALS follows a peer-review process, meaning there is no guarantee that submitted articles will be published.
